Someone at West Ham wake up and smell the coffee
|
We just voided relegation last year and granted won the Europa Conference league. This has granted us another European adventure this coming season but means no respite. We have just lost our best player........
What do you think is going to happen to our league position this year if you do not recruit decent replacements? None of this "oh we tried" stuff.
We will be in a scap again no doubt. Bournemouth must be foaming at the mouth about the first game....ffs

That's very grown up Vicky. One thing I've noticed on this forum is tat anyone who questions the club's ambitions is immediately abused by all and sundry. It's all about opinions but "bore the fuck off" is hardly inventive.

You could have just said all this in the transfer thread or the Rice thread where similar discussions are instead of creating a new one.
Oh hang about, you already did!

Agree there are concerns, but Rice was literally just out the door at the weekend. You have to give the club a chance to get players in, which of course couldn't be done until the Rice deal was definitely complete. Can't risk spending 30 million on a replacement if the deal fell through. And you can't start spending 100 million before you know it's yours.
Obviously we need players, obviously we won;t just buy no-one. Will we get all the players in we'd like? Almost certainly not, but they do need time to get people in.

A well measured response El Scorchio. But surely we cannot be that skint we have to wait to sell to buy? Especially as now everyone knows we have £105 million in Sullivan's pocket (not burning a hole).
IMHO opinion we go throught his every year, other clubs identify their targets and get busy, we wait on one excuse after another, To top it all we have a "manager" who says he doesn't know what's going on and gets all his updates from Sky Sports. You couldn't make it up. Leicester are being more pro active than us and they are in the championship! (not for long)

Fortunately for me Swindon, I don't lurk about waiting to jump on someone's post. Good luck with your war on other posters.

Would I take a bad league finish but avoiding relegation for another long European adventure? Bloody right I would, I would even take it for one of the domestic cups. Let's be honest, we will still be talking about the Confrence League win for years, we won't be about finishing 6th.
What I really want to see is some more positive football.

I actually don't think we'll fare that badly post-Rice.
Oir quality focus will simply move further upfield. Paqueta can clearly pick a pass (he's no Brooking/Devonshire/Paddon but who wants that?) If he's got Bowen and Samacca as targets I think he'll grow immensely next term. I think one or two strikers from the stiffs are banging at the door and they're likely to grab any chance of first team football with both arms.
Antonio should be no more than an impact sub. Ings, well, somebody's got to make up the home-grown count and Cornet? Somebody please remind me what he does.
My issue then us Benrhama/Fornals. Both can deliver on the day but equally, both can disappear. I'd go for Fornals simply because I believe he "gets" West Ham and would run through walls for the badge (and fans).
Further back I think Downes will grow into the role this season, and Chesters will play a few more that a couple of cameo appearances. Johnson is my only concern at the back; there's clearly a quality player in there but he needs to claim and nail down a position.
If I've got any real concerns it is whether or not the manager knows what talent he's got at the club and how best to use it.

We also only just got a new head of recruitment in at the start of the month. Now Rice is done I'd hope we'll see a few more coming in before the start of the season just to lift the move, but we've already sold masses of season tickets so there's probable not that much urgency in the boardroom.

I'm pretty calm. If as expected, they waste the Rice money, he'll gone by January. If we expected, he continues with the hit football, he'll be gone by January. If he pulls off a miracle and signs decent players and the football's positive, I'll be happy to be proved wrong

Bournemouth must be foaming at the mouth really ?? We smashed them 4 0 ag their place near end of season
Since the new yr we were a hell of a lot better culminating in european cup win.
Yep we need 3 or 4 players in but no panic.
As for your post saying everyone stating that emerson is like a new signing heres a tip no one is saying that.

Yep - some people are difficult to please. In the past we've been linked with loads of players, and loads of people moan "can't we keep quiet and just go about our business". This season, we sell our best and most marketable player and have been quiet about whatever business we are lining up. The inevitable "we're so shit, we haven't signed anyone yet" comes along.
I'm actually looking forward to the season, and like Mike has said - if we do well, great. If we start badly, great - as Moyes will be gone.
